IRU President, Mr Paul Laeremans, attending the FIOST (International Federation of Trade Union of transport Workers) World Seminar of affiliated transport trade unions in Bangkok, under the theme ‘Sustainable Mobility’, stressed the need to strike a better balance in social legislation to meet both industry and worker needs. He called for labour representatives to join the IRU in urging governments to play their part in making road transport greener and safer through incentives and better infrastructure, and to tackle the issue of increasing violent attacks against drivers.
Mr Laeremans finally highlighted the importance of professional training through the IRU Academy in improving companies’ competitiveness, and boosting the numbers of skilled drivers and young workers seeking a career in road transport.
